Earth Angels
The inspiration for these paintings comes from a trip I took some years ago across Iowa. It was early spring. The day was gray and misty and the open, unplowed fields were every shade of muddy brown. I noticed how quickly I wanted to dismiss my empty surroundings and shift into more interesting and exciting ones. I had often counseled clients in the midst of uncertainty and emptiness to embrace their circumstances, if they could. I had recently lost a job, the void around me reflected the one I felt inside. At some point I noticed that as I allowed myself to be with these present circumstances I felt comforted by the miles of grayness - almost as though I were being cocooned. I was reminded that angels come in many forms.
