Diane Amer
Diane Amer creates a diverse array of figurative and contemporary abstracts in acrylics and mixed media using color and form to express transcendence of the human spirit. Her paintings reflect a sense of playfulness and freedom; The Art of Joy.
Inspired by family stories and her years of working with people who were facing life-threatening health challenges, a reoccurring underpinning of her work is transformation through story. Story is many layered and unfinished. She often incorporates symbols evocative of freedom - birds, doors, windows and simple geometric shapes.
Diane was born in Washington but grew up on a farm in central Minnesota. She holds degrees in nursing and psychology and a masters in organizational leadership from the University of St. Catherine. She began painting in 2010 after a thirty-five year career in health care. Her work has been influenced by Henri Matisse, Hessam Abrishami, Robert Burridge and Betsy Dillard Stroud. She has studied with both Robert Burridge and Betsy Dillard Stroud.
She lives with her husband, Greg, in St. Paul, Minnesota. They have two grown children and four grandchildren.
